Google has recently introduced Gemini 2.5, its latest experimental artificial intelligence model, which is already making waves in the AI landscape. With its impressive performance across various tasks, including coding, science, and mathematics, Gemini 2.5 is proving itself to be one of the most intelligent AI models to date. On March 25, Google announced that it would allow developers to experiment with its advanced “thinking” model, Gemini 2.5 Pro, which aims to enhance accuracy, performance, and reasoning capabilities.
Gemini 2.5 is described by Google as an AI model that “thinks through its thoughts” before responding, which leads to improved reasoning and decision-making. This cognitive process allows the model to provide more accurate and context-aware responses, particularly in complex tasks such as coding, mathematics, and scientific calculations. According to Google, Gemini 2.5 topped the charts in reasoning and knowledge, as well as in science and mathematics, making it the company’s “most intelligent AI model” to date.
In addition to its prowess in various fields, Gemini 2.5 has also demonstrated strong performance in web development. The model ranked second on the LMArena WebDev leaderboard, which is a real-time AI coding competition where AI models are tested on their ability to solve web development challenges. Gemini 2.5 achieved an arena score of 1267.70, surpassing other competitors such as DeepSeek, Grok, and ChatGPT. However, the top spot went to Anthropic’s AI model, Claude 3.7 Sonnet, which scored 1354.01 points.
Despite the introduction of new and promising models like Gemini 2.5, OpenAI’s ChatGPT continues to dominate the AI tools market. In 2024, ChatGPT recorded over 40 billion visits annually, holding nearly a 40% market share, according to data from AI statistics platform aitools.xyz. With such impressive numbers, ChatGPT remains the leader in AI chatbot usage. Canva’s AI generator secured second place with 10.4 billion visits, capturing a 10.25% market share.
The AI tools market has also seen new contenders emerging. In February 2024, DeepSeek’s AI tools saw a significant rise in popularity, climbing to third place with a 6.58% market share. DeepSeek’s growth rate was also notable, increasing by 195%, and it recorded a monthly visit count of 792 million. Despite these developments, ChatGPT still holds a commanding lead, with a 43% market share and 5.2 billion monthly visits in February alone.
Google’s introduction of Gemini 2.5 is a significant step forward in the development of AI models, particularly with its enhanced reasoning capabilities and performance in specialized fields like coding and mathematics. While Gemini 2.5 has shown strong performance in the AI community, OpenAI’s ChatGPT continues to dominate the market, maintaining its position as the leader in AI tools. As new models emerge, the competition in the AI space is likely to intensify, offering users even more powerful and specialized tools in the future.
